Bonita Shawl

September 19, 2018Leave a comment

Liz of Kitterly asked me to knit up a sample shawl for an upcoming trade show. She had Shibui Knits Cima and Silk Cloud in Ash colorway sent to me and I started knitting (along with a test knitting group) Bonita Shawl by Ambah O'Brien. This shawl is ethereal and positively dreamy, like angel wings. … Continue reading Bonita Shawl

Fun mail arrived today! It’s Liz Gipson’s new book, A Weaver’s Guide to Yarn! 🧶💛 As I was proofing this for Liz, I was thinking it was a great resource for me, a knitter, to have more knowledge about the yarn I’m using for my projects. An excellent resource for anyone who uses yarn! 👍👍👍 Find it at Yarnworker.com 🧡 @yarnworker #yarnbooks #weavingbooks #weavingresources #weaversofinstagram #weaversofig #selfpublishing #yarnknowledge #weavinginstructor
Finally finished the somewhat matching, but not #matchymatchy brioche hat for my Boo. Pattern is Harlow by @dreareneeknits and yarn is @madelinetosh Twist Light. Details and more photos in my blog post (link in profile). He wanted a fitted hat, and this one fits perfectly! Easy and nice design! #briochehat #briocheallthethings #briocheaddict #knittedhat #handknitgifts
Fabulosity by @casapinka is a textured shawl that never gets boring! I knit this sample with 4 colors of @missbabsyarns Yummy 2-Ply and it looks fabulous! Day 3 of #fiberuarychallenge (please pardon this bit of recycling from my blog) - My first finished knitting project (after a many-year hiatus from childhood) was my One Row Archangel Scarf by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee who I happened to get to meet in April 2016 with Ann of @uptown_knitting at Knitting in the Heartland. I knit my scarf with some beautiful @malabrigoyarn Rios in the Archangel colorway that was very pink back in 2012 (Archangel has become more purple-y orange nowadays). - I finished the scarf on July 4, 2013. It was a great way to get back in the saddle. - @yarnharlot #fiberuary #knitterslife #knittersofig #knittersgonnaknit #knitscarf @kithkc #firstknittingproject #beginnerknittingpattern
Day 2 (I’m on time!) When I’m not knitting, I’m working, either at my full-time job, thinking of designing the next knitting pattern (long overdue), tech editing, proofreading, spending time with my Boo, and doing chores. I’m not one to just sit around and do nothing because I get bored easily. Occasionally, I’ll get a wild hair and crochet something. I recently saw on IG a non-granny square blanket that would be cool. I also frequently see amigurumi that I want to crochet, but don’t have time to do. My first venture into amigurumi resulted in a “white tadpole” rather than the panda that I should’ve come up with from the class. I did some sewing, but that is so time-consuming, takes up so much space I don’t have (the dining room table), and makes a big mess. I enjoy road trips with hubby where he drives and I knit. It works well for the both of us. We typically go to an LYS when visiting other cities and souvenir yarns typically happen. He also BBQs, so I get to enjoy some awesome brisket, pulled pork, ribs, steaks. Sometimes I cook: sous vide, baking pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, enchiladas, baked spaghetti. I also make some amazing deviled eggs. I used to cook a lot, but it’s hard to do so in a teeny, tiny apartment kitchen. Mentally, I’m always worrying about something. It does give me an edge so I’m prepared for any possible disaster that could occur. It usually doesn’t occur, or things that I totally didn’t think about, will. Other than that, when I’m not knitting, I’m thinking of what I’m going to eat next. “What’s for dinner?” “What are we eating this weekend?” “Should I eat that butter, sugar, cinnamon bread from Costco that’s just sitting there in the break room at work?” Then there are major time killers: “What’s the next project I’m going to knit?” “Do I have yarn?” “Oh, maybe I need to surf the web for yarn.” “Or new needles.” Ravelry and its swap groups, Instagram and Facebook knitting groups do take up my non-knitting time — and funny cat memes/videos. #fiberuarychallenge #fiberuary #knitterslife #knittersofig #knittersgonnaknit
I’m a day behind on the #fiberuarychallenge 😬 but hope to continue this as time permits. 😃 Hi, my name is Cindy, and I’m the face behind Orange Smoothie Knits. I live in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb in the metro Kansas City, Missouri area, with my hubby, Dwane (aka Boo). We don’t have any children or pets, but some day, I hope to have a Westie again. My paternal grandmother started me on the path of knitting and crocheting when I was young, but I didn’t pick them up until 2012-ish when I started crocheting again. Shortly after that, @skirler told me about Ravelry, and that opened a new world of knitting for me. While I work full-time as a paralegal at a law firm in Kansas City, I spend the rest of my time test and sample knitting for my designer friends. I’ve just recently started tech editing as well. A couple of years ago, my friend, Ann of @uptown_knitting designed a pattern, so I thought I’d try that, too. It’s a lot of hard work, but very satisfying to see the beautiful creations others make from my designs. I am really enjoying reading all the other #fiberuary posts and getting to know you all! @hi.ravelry #intro #yarnaddict #knittersofinstagram #knittersoftheworld #knittingaddict #knitdesigner
